My massage therapy is strongly influenced by the traditions of lomilomi massage, a branch of the healing arts of Hawaii. Lomilomi incorporates breathwork, long strokes and deep muscle-specific releases, as well as setting healing intention through visualizations and communication. Lomilomi sessions also hold space for clients to process the profound and healing emotions of gratitude, love, and forgiveness. During massage sessions, I combine compassionate touch with learned technique to increase the flow of mana, or life force, thereby optimizing integration between body, mind and spirit. I incorporate all of my knowledge, tools and presence to serve you; your body provides the context (quite literally, the tissue) for our work. I also offer massage for PIP cases and WA State L&I cases, which focus on healing physical injuries as they relate to pain, trauma and activities of daily living. A 60 minute session is good for working on one or two specific areas of the body, as well as general relaxation; a 90 minute session allows for a more full-body massage experience, and gives the nervous system more time to calm.
I am so grateful to do the job that I do—holding space for my clients, using all my training and my intuition to practice quality bodywork that supports my clients in their unique healing processes. I believe that when we feel good in our bodies we are able to live our best lives.
ABOUT MY STYLE AND MY PRACTICE...
My favorite type of massage and main influence is lomilomi, a gentle and also deep modality that is a branch of the traditional healing arts of Hawaii. It nurtures the spirit, and with compassionate touch optimizes the flow of mana (life force). Most of my sessions incorporate lomilomi with Swedish treatment techniques, as well as a variety of other massage modalities which I have learned through experience and formal education. I integrate my knowledge of other traditions--like the chakra system and concepts of the medicine wheel--into my sessions.
ABOUT MY TRAINING...
I graduated from Brenneke School of Massage and became a licensed massage therapist in 2006. I also earned my license endorsement for small animal massage in 2006, and worked with dogs during the first 7 years of my practice. My continuing education in massage has focused on lomilomi, in addition to classes on a variety of subjects (ranging from visceral manipulation to massage for hospice patients) and I worked for 10 years in a practice located within a chiropractic office. I give gratitude to Heartspire Lomilomi for opening the world of Hawaiian bodywork to me in 2008. I first became attuned in the Usui Reiki system in 2006, and am a level 2 practitioner in that lineage. My interest in energy medicine has led me to study with Gloria Two-Feathers since 2014; I give gratitude to her for guiding me on the journey of discovering my personal medicine. With a background in dance, martial arts and running, I have been studying hula since 2014 with the halau Sunshine from Polynesia. In my life, hula represents the balanced relationship between body, mind and spirit--as well as the importance of our responsibilities as individuals in the greater community and natural world. These paths, and many others, have converged to direct me in my devotion to practicing massage and energy medicine. At my core, I believe that receiving compassionate touch gives each of us the opportunity to connect with our most authentic selves--to live our fullest, most balanced lives. The chakras are centers through which we process energy and information, they affect the health of our physical and energetic bodies. Understanding our chakra system can allow us to transform our lives through awareness, practices and discipline. Receiving a chakra balancing session is a wonderful way to come to center, to relax and recharge, and to increase your felt sense of energy. In balancing sessions the client rests comfortably clothed on the massage table, as I work with the major chakras. I use my training, practice, protocol and intuition to balance them individually and bring them into more efficient relationship with each other. This is done through hands-on energy work, which may also include any combination of awareness exercises, visualizations, sound healing, color therapy, gentle massage or stretching, etc. I tailor my sessions to fit each client--what one would like to get out of a session as well as individual learning and healing needs. These chakra balancing sessions are pure energy work within my scope of practice, and are not psychic sessions or readings. When our chakra system is more balanced, we are better able to manifest and to liberate, to function well in our earthwalk and to reach higher consciousness--we can get the bills paid and bliss out! I recommend 90 minute sessions for chakra balancing.
Attuned in the Usui Reiki system, I offer hands on Reiki sessions (into which I often incorporate gentle passive range of motion movements and stretching) to help calm the central nervous system, and support physical and energetic body shifts. Reiki is a gentle modality of energy work which aims to embody 5 principles in the present moment: the release of anger, the release of worry, gratitude, compassion for the self and others, and devotion to one's work/practices. Reiki is effective and enjoyable in 60 and 90 minute sessions.
